A channel letter sign is made up of individual 3-D letters—meaning they are all separately illuminated. But together these letters make up a whole sign or brand presentation. Standard Front-Lit Channel
Standard front-lit are the most common type of channel letters and can be easily customized. They are illuminated internally using either LED or neon lights and they light the front or the “face” of each letter.
Halo-Lit or Reverse Channel
Standard channel letters simply have each channel letter individually lit. Halo-lit or reverse channel letters produce a quite different effect. They allow LED lights from inside the letters to cast a halo on the side of each letter so they display a shiny glow around each letter, producing a halo effect.
Backlit Channel
This sign is a combination of both the halo-lit letter and the standard-lit letter. It leaves the sign “open” so the illuminated effect is reflected off the wall.
Stud-mounted
Stud- or direct-mounted signs are connected directly to a building using fasteners. Electric is then run from inside the building or on the back of the wall of the lettering to make the letters glow.
Raceway-mounted channels
Raceway mounting has LED channel letters attached to a raceway. The raceway holds all of the electrical wiring, power supplies, etc. From there, the raceway is attached to the building.
